For the first time results of a city election will be at the public's finger tips within seconds of the results. The City of Roswell bond election results will be placed on the city's web site live Wednesday, Nov. 12, from election headquarters seconds after they are tabulated.
"The city is moving forward into the electronic age and is working on new ways to make local government accessible to the public," said Mayor Tom Jennings. "The mail-in election was the first attempt to reach a wider public and now with election results on the city's web page live hopefully we will reach everyone."
Bob Bush, with Roswell Web Services, who maintains the City's web site, said this is a means of bringing attention to Roswell's innovative efforts.
"Roswell is one of the most technologically advanced communities in the nation," Bush said. "One example is that Roswell is one of the first communities in the nation to put computers in every classroom."
"This is great because it's another method to get information to the public as quickly as possible," said City Clerk Tim Stoessel.
Early election results indicate about 45 percent of the voters have already cast their votes.
"This is indicative of a heavy voter turnout," Jennings said.
