BOOK TALK Many people enjoy catching their favorite author's latest book just as it comes out. Mystery readers are not exception. Rita Mae Brown (together with her co-author and pet can Sneaky Pie Brown) has delivered yet another mystery in her most popular series in which the animals are always several steps ahead of the humans in solving the latest crime. "Pawing Through the Past" revolves around a series of murders that take place during a high school reunion in the small town of Crozet. All of the regular characters are out in force, but it is their past that determines whether they will live or die. Mrs. Murphy, Pewter, and Tucker use their feline and canine instincts and abilities to protect their human, Mary Minor Harristeen, from a killer who has lost all touch with reality and cannot stop killing. Animal lovers will enjoy the rivalry and humor of the dog and cats as they watch their humans stumble through life without a decent sense of smell. Their love for these "lesser beings" is entertaining and touching. DID YOU KNOW?
