The 18th Annual Cahoon Park Run is scheduled to be held Saturday, February 26 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Cahoon Park. The Cahoon Park Run consists of a competitive 10K run, 3 mile fun run/walk, and a 2 mile walk. The Cahoon Park Run is sponsored by the Roswell Recreation Department AND new cosponsors: United Blood Services and John Jerge, CPA along with Golden Corral. Participants will compete in seven age divisions for both men and women in the 10K and 3 mile fun run/walk and 2 mile walk. Age divisions are 10 & Under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-70, and 70 and over. The event promotes tourism into our area - several runners come from other communities in support of the running competition. Recreation is often the catalyst for tourism, a growing sector of our community.

John Jerge, CPA stated "The turnout is always great, just a good wholesome fitness activity". "It's events like this that show the importance of recreation and fitness to our area - there's nothing quite like it."

There are two new additions this year to the Cahoon Park Run - blood pressure screening and a blood drive. Blood pressure screening will be available free of charge from 7:30 am - 8:30 am. before the race begins. For those interested in the blood drive, individuals can come over during and after the race to the Recreation Department's Conference Room to give blood. Eligible donors must be at least 17 and because of changes in qualifications, donors can be 80 or older. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well and bring I.D. and a list of current medications they are taking. This is being held in an effort of community awareness. What better time to have a blood drive than during a fitness event - which bases itself upon the importance of Health & Wellness. All blood types are needed. However, blood type O positive and O negative are needed now. The supply of these blood types and blood components are precariously low.

Overall winners male and female in both races will receive a certificate for individual meals at Golden Corral and ceramic collectable. First through third place finishers in the 10k, 3 mile and 2 mile will receive ribbons. First place finishers in every age group will receive a ceramic heart. All participants will receive long sleeve t-shirts. Awards will be given out immediately after the races. Other prizes donated by area merchants will be given in a drawing for participants after the race. Entry forms are available at the Recreation Office in Cahoon Park, Golden Corral, John Jerge, CPA. or by calling the Recreation Department at 624-6720. Registration race day will be from 8:30-9:30 at the Recreation Department.

Pre-registration fee for the 10k and 3 mile/2 mile is $8.00 respectively on or before February 23rd. After February 23rd the entry fee is $9.00. For more information concerning the 18th Annual Cahoon Park Run or other activities sponsored by the Recreation Department call 624-6720.
