PARTY ON THE PECOS

The Roswell Community League and the Roswell Parks and Recreation Departments are planning to sponsor Party on the Pecos featuring entertainment sporting events, food and beverages, and games for all ages. This exciting event is scheduled to occur May 5, 2001 at Cahoon Park from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Gate admission is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors and children 11 through 17, children 10 and under are free. After 3:00 p.m. the price will be raised to $10.00 for Adults and $6.00 for adults.

Food and game booth rentals are offered to non-profit groups who will keep the profit for their organizational needs. Ring toss, gold fish toss, face painting, confetti eggs, and games of skill are just some of the booth activities. Food and Game Booth Rentals will be $60.00. Look for all of your favorites including roasted corn, Texas Taters, and barbecue. For a food booth or game booth application contact Lore Chamberlin at 624-9639.

Throughout the day,, entertainment will be provided by local and area talent performing continually on stage while the crowd partakes in the festivities. Country & Western Singing Sensation - Chris Cagel will be performing at 3:00 p.m. and headline entertainer will be Randy Griggs performing at 5:00 p.m. - entertainment will be included in the price of admission.

Sporting events will include a Run for the Zoo, Sand Volleyball tournament and the Pecos Pull (a corporate tug of war). Registration applications are now being taken for all of these activities. Local city officials are being invited to participate in the Pecos Pattie Pitch.

There will be a "Kids Korner" to children 10 and under. Children will be able to play games, create craft items, build with wood and other imaginative and inventive activities. Admission to the children's area will be free of charge. A Bus Shuttle will be running from the old municipal airport every fifteen minutes and is open to the public and is free of charge. People are encouraged to take advantage of this service, because parking around the park is limited. A Fireworks Display is planned and is sponsored by Longhorn Manufacturing. Over $2000 was donated towards the Party on the Pecos to be used for a community wide fireworks display that will take place at 8:00 p.m. The event will be held on the golf course west of the Party on the Pecos. There. is no charge. for the show, but participants must stand behind the barriers. Pet owners should take necessary precautions regarding their animals by keeping them inside at the time of the display.

The Roswell Community League, which has been designated a 501-C3 organization, will accept monetary, material and in-kind donations. They can be made for either a single event or the entire occasion. This event is focusing on the FAMILY. Families that recreate together, remain together longer, and are the cornerstone of stronger communities.
